GuildWars Marathon
Guild Race , the first team to arrive wins.
i would love to make this long distance , but the only way to avoid people from using the map is , each team takes 1 jury to control jumping towns with map.
my first idea was something like :
ascalon to grotto
making team sizes of only 3 person , number 4 is jury.
but if start in ToA 7 person teams would be possible
what do you think ?

? Map jump...
With party groups in Ascalon maxing out at 4, it would be near impossible to prevent cheating...

This could be possible with the new spectator feature. Ok, so say there is 4 people in the race. From Ascalon they take off to the Breach. The party doesn't zone until the last one hits the Breach. Say they were 10 seconds apart. The one in first place has a 10 second head start before #2 can move. (of course there should be some kind of global halt until everyone loads) Repeat the process until everyone is running. 1st one to Sanctum Cay wins.
One thing to consider is that the lead person will be caught simply because of autorun. When you follow someone by select/space, you are on the shortest path to them. This feature that is already in the game would prevent someone having an overwhelming lead.
Any thoughts on if they should ban run skills in the race?

You could start at ToA with 7 people from ONE guild, and an "uninterested" judge. Time is kept by the judge, and the fastest guild time to Grotto/Citadel wins. You wouldnt have to wait for anyone, just egt 7 people together and find a Judge (someone who posts here maybe?). Only one person woud have to make it.

So how exactly would they get passed the hundreds of mobs without running skills?
I think it would be better to go from ascalon to the furthest point west..
Anyone can make the run from Ascalon to beacon's perch.. then its just down to war camp and over to citadel.

What you would need is a sponsor guild. One that will not have a team in the race, but will instead collect entry fees, pay prize money, and provide judges to the teams that are running. With this method you could have the race be from Ascalon to Hells Precipice (minus the doppleganger quest, just need the judge to OK the warp from augury to dragons lair after the 3 desert missions are completed).
Basically this would be a race to see how fast a team of one less than max can complete the game, including ascension, at max level. If it could be verified it would be better to have each team member face his doppleganger, but this would be too hard to prevent cheating without dev support.

I thought of this idea, thought not in as much detail and I think it would be great. From Old Ascalon all the way to Santium Cay. Or further as suggested by allowing warping. Using a relay idea would work as in start off with 4 then pick up 2 more from the guild at yak's bend, check in with register's along the way. If someone is suspected of 'traveling' (ie. they manage to get somewhere a bit too fast or they don't turn up in a group) then they are disqualified. Of course it shouldn't involve assecenion or anything like that, just traveling from one place to next as fast as possible. This may be something to mention to the frog next time somebody sees him. Judges either can wait in towns/outposts recording when guilds pass though (as it would be best to have only one group from a guild to keep it simple) by one member of the group checking in with the judge (the judges could all be from one guild so they can easily be spotted in the towns). And also as mention judges can travel with the groups to keep an eye on them. I really like this idea and hope to see some people try and implement it.

Easy fix on "town jumping"....each party would have to consist of a newly created character, fresh from presearing - and I mean level 1 or level 2, so it's near impossible that they've gone any distance in the game. They can't jump to the towns without him, and they have to cross the finish line with him.
I would say the finish line would have to be before ascension - no way to prevent runners to droknar's, etc and the ascension quest automatically results in splitting up the group.

Do it in reverse. Start everyone in Droks, party size 8. Race to Beacons, last 2 get dropped. From Beacons head to Yaks, and then into Ascalon, say Courthouse. Last 2 get dropped again. From there it's a quick sprint into the city.

A couple of ideas:
1. Each team puts up 50K. The "moderator" will pay the 100K total to the winner.
2. A free guild battle, where the loser allows the other team to beat them in a GvG match. Good for ladder rankings, etc.

Unless you have a person in every district of every town.. then there is a good chance of cheating.

Each participating guild must provide one player with a very low level char (as close to 1 as possible) in addition to their team. That low level char becomes the "judge" for another team. Basically just verifies that the team did not map warp anywhere. Since the low level char could die right away, you have an observer.
Participating guilds can grow the groups as they reach areas allowing it by having new members join (the new members can warp to the correct district/town while the actual group does not). Or you could just restrict teams to the 3 + judge squad .... or allow them to pick up henchies if they wish to grow.
The "judges" and any interested "viewers" can join a teamspeak or ventrillo server for play by play calls and updates.
Hard for collusion to happen as the assignment of judge to team would be random and any attempt to bribe might become public. Plus since the judge is a low level char, map warping with the judge still along would be near impossible.
